Fleet Models  |  The new ID. Cross

Appealing, practical, efficient!

24. August 2026

The all-electric ID. Cross is part of a new generation of Volkswagen small and compact cars: consistently focused on its own strengths and tailored even more closely to a wide range of customer requirements. In terms of quality, comfort and equipment, it also sets new standards for the segment. We take a closer look at this development in the ID. Cross, particularly with regard to the benefits for fleets.

Anyone looking to enter the SUV class will find the new ID. Cross a good option – and an all-electric one at that. Compared with its conventionally powered sister model, the T-Cross, the compact model actually offers more space for drivers and passengers as well as luggage. The electric SUV offers up to 475 litres of stowage space, up to 20 litres more than the combustion-engine model. This is made possible by an additional area beneath the variable luggage compartment floor, which can accommodate up to two crates of drinks. There is also a small luggage compartment under the bonnet with space for up to a further 25 litres: this so-called frunk is ideal for charging cables and smaller items.

Appealing: Design for a new era

With its clear and timeless design, the ID. Cross brings a fresh look to the compact SUV segment: Volkswagen calls its new design language “Pure Positive”; it conveys visual stability while also creating a friendly appearance: Characteristic elements such as the elongated “flying roof”, the strong C-pillar and distinctive light signatures at the front and rear define its appearance. The light signatures are even more striking when the optional IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights and 3D LED rear lights with illuminated LED crossbars and illuminated VW logos are included in the specification. The clear design continues consistently in the interior: Details include the fabric-covered dash panel and refined controls such as the outer edge of the audio controls in the centre console. All buttons, controls, handles and surfaces have a pleasant feel.

Practical: Infotainment and display concept

For the driver, the digital instruments are shown in the Digital Cockpit Pro and, together with the infotainment display, are clearly arranged on a horizontal line. The Digital Cockpit Pro has a screen diagonal of 26.0 cm (10.25 inches) and offers an interesting feature for fans of the classic Golf from the 1980s: At the press of a button on the multifunction steering wheel, the “retro display” can be selected and the instruments of a Golf I appear in the Digital Cockpit Pro. In this case, there is a classic speedometer on the left and a rev counter on the right. However, in the ID. Cross it does not show engine speed; instead, the power display shows the energy output or input of the electric drive. Other modern functions such as the Dynamic Road Sign Display are of course also integrated into the retro layout.

The infotainment system’s large touch display, positioned in the centre of the dash panel, has a screen diagonal of 32.8 cm (12.9 inches). The display is also easy for the front passenger to reach.

Efficient: New electric front-wheel drive

The ID. Cross uses the latest evolutionary stage of the modular electric drive (MEB) platform, known as MEB+: At the heart of the system is a new electric drive motor, which will be available in the ID. Cross in three different output levels:

  • 85 kW (116 PS): Not yet available for sale; no consumption figures are currently available.
  • 99 kW (135 PS): Not yet available for sale; no consumption figures are currently available.
  • 155 kW (211 PS): Combined power consumption 16.9–14.3 kWh/100 km; combined CO₂emissions 0 g/km; CO₂ class: A.
The battery is available in two sizes: 37 kWh (net) or 52 kWh (net). AC charging capacity is 11 kW at a home charging station and public charging stations. The smaller battery can be charged from 10 to 80 per cent in around 23 minutes³⁾ at DC fast-charging points with a power output of up to 90 kW. With the larger 52 kWh version, charging from 10 to 80 per cent at up to 105 kW – with a particularly steady charging curve – takes around 24 minutes.³⁾

Confident: Technologies from higher vehicle classes

Thanks to MEB+ and the latest software, the ID. Cross comes with a wide range of cutting-edge assist systems as standard. In addition, assist systems such as Connected Travel Assist will be available as optional equipment. This is the next generation of Travel Assist; it now uses online data and, for the first time, also responds to traffic lights: If the new Connected Travel Assist detects a red traffic light, it can brake the ID. Cross automatically to a standstill within the system limits. Another new feature is one-pedal driving, which enables strong deceleration of the SUV solely by regulating the accelerator.
Smart parking aids that make manoeuvring even easier are also available: For example, the 360-degree Area View can provide a comprehensive bird’s-eye view of the vehicle’s surroundings, while Park Assist Pro can, if desired, handle parking and exit manoeuvres fully automatically, including the option of parking the vehicle remotely via smartphone.⁶⁾ ⁷⁾ ⁸⁾

Vehicle-to-Load

The new ID. Cross supports bidirectional charging. With the separately available “PowerSocket” adapter, external devices can be powered directly by the vehicle, such as an e-bike, cool box or camping equipment.

The ID. Cross from Volkswagen is already available to pre-order in the Life and Style equipment lines on the German market. The Trend equipment line is also expected to be available for the German market from mid-October 2026. There may be differences in EU and international markets.

All information applies to the German market. The vehicle images show special equipment.

²⁾Range determined on the rolling road test bed in the most range-favourable equipment variant of the ID. Cross Life with a net battery energy content of 52 kWh (power consumption combined: 16.7–14.3 kWh/100km; combined CO₂ emissions: 0 g/km; CO₂ class(es): A). The actual range values may vary depending on the equipment fitted. The actual range achieved under real conditions varies depending on driving style, speed, use of comfort features or auxiliary consumers, outside temperature, number of passengers/payload, topography and the ageing and wear process of the battery.

³⁾Maximum charging capacity for a new vehicle. The charging behaviour of different charging stations can differ, even if their kW capacity is the same. In addition to a charging station’s kW output, the maximum charging current also influences the amount of energy that flows. Furthermore, battery ageing, ambient and battery temperature, stationary air conditioning (cooling) and the charge level influence the maximum possible charging capacity. The specified maximum charging capacity is determined under WLTP conditions at a temperature of 23 °C and a charge level from five per cent. If these variables change, the charging capacity may deviate from the specified standard value.

⁴⁾Permissible braked towing capacity at gradients of up to 12%; may vary depending on the selected powertrain and equipment.

⁵⁾The actual charging duration may vary in practice. The actual charging duration depends primarily on the available power of the charging infrastructure, the exact charge level at the start of charging, the ambient and battery temperatures and the use of auxiliary consumers in the vehicle (e.g. stationary air conditioning).

⁶⁾Within the limits of the system.

⁷⁾The driver must be ready to override the assist system at all times and is not relieved of their responsibility to drive the vehicle with due care.

⁸⁾To use Park Assist Pro for remote parking, you must download the Volkswagen AG “VW Park Assist Pro” app. The terms of use in the app must be accepted before first use. The app is designed for iOS devices (iOS 16 or later; iPhone 8 or later). When used with other devices, particularly Android devices, the Bluetooth connection or its stability may be limited depending on the operating system and model of the mobile device. In these cases, the parking manoeuvre cannot be performed remotely or will be aborted. Further information about the app can be found in the Apple Play Store and in the Google Play Store.

The specified fuel consumption, electricity consumption, CO₂ emissions and electric ranges have been determined according to the measurement procedures of the “Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure” (WLTP) in line with Regulation (EC) No. 715/2007. Additional equipment and accessories (add-on parts, different tyre formats, etc.) may change the relevant vehicle parameters, such as weight, rolling resistance and aerodynamics, and, in conjunction with weather and traffic conditions and individual driving style, may affect fuel consumption, electrical power consumption, CO₂ emissions and the performance figures for the vehicle. Further information about WLTP can be found at: www.volkswagen.de/wltp
