C. Use of Cookies and Tracking Tools
I. General Information
Volkswagen AG uses various cookies on its websites. Cookies are small files with configuration information that are stored on your terminal device. Cookies can essentially be divided into three categories. There are cookies that are essential for the functionality of the website (referred to as functional cookies), cookies that make it easier to use a website and, for example, save your language settings (referred to as convenience cookies), and cookies on the basis of which a pseudonymised user profile is created (referred to as tracking cookies).
Functional cookies have to be processed to allow you to visit the website (see Article 6(1) (b) of the GDPR).
The legal basis for convenience cookies can be a legitimate interest (Article 6(1) (f) of the GDPR). The legitimate interest can lie in the provision of convenience when visiting the website. You can object to data processing at any time with effect for the future by preventing the storage of cookies by means of a setting in your browser or by clicking the following link and changing your current preferences in our Cookie Consent Manager:
Tracking cookies are only used if the website visitor has consented to this (see Article 6(1) (a) of the GDPR). Consent is provided via the cookie banner, which has to be actively clicked to do this.
For more information about our cookies, please see the Cookie Policy and the information provided below.
II. Matomo Analytics
This website uses the Matomo web analytics software to evaluate user access. Data processing takes place on the basis of consent given by you (Article 6(1) (a) of the GDPR). Tracking cookies are stored on your device for analysis purposes and forwarded to the Matomo web analytics software server. The server is operated by IT provider makandra GmbH, Augsburg, on behalf of Volkswagen AG. Your IP address is anonymised on the server with the web analytics software as soon as it has been transferred. To do this, your IP address is shortened by the last 16 bits or 2 octets when using Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) or by 80 bits or 10 octets when using Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6). This means that the anonymised IP address cannot be traced back to a specific person. The web analytics software then processes the anonymised IP address and tracking cookies to statistically analyse access.
The anonymised visitor data is processed by the Matomo web analytics software in the form of aggregated reports and the individual visitor data is deleted automatically by the IT service provider makandra GmbH, Augsburg, within 365 days.
D. Your Rights
You may exercise the following rights vis-à-vis Volkswagen AG at any time without cost. Further information about asserting your rights is provided in section E.
Right of Access by the Data Subject: You have the right to receive information from us (Art. 15 of the GDPR) about the processing of your personal data.
Right to Rectification: You have the right to demand that we correct (Art. 16 of the GDPR) any incorrect or incomplete personal data that concerns you.
Right to Erasure: You have the right to demand the deletion of your data if the conditions in Article 17 of the GDPR are met. For example, you may ask for your data to be deleted if it is no longer necessary for the purposes for which it was collected. You may also ask for your data to be erased if we process your data based on your consent and you withdraw that consent.
Right to Restriction of Processing: You have the right to demand a restriction of the processing of your data if the conditions in Article 18 of the GDPR are met. This is the case, for example, if you dispute the accuracy of your data. You can then demand a restriction of the processing for the period it takes to verify the accuracy of the data.
Right to Object: You have the right to object to the processing of your data if the processing is based on an overriding legitimate interest. If you object to the processing of your data, please notify us of the grounds for your objection. You also have the right to object to data processing for the purposes of direct marketing. The same applies to profiling, insofar as it is related to direct marketing.
Right to Data Portability: If data is processed on the basis of consent or in the performance of a contract using an automated procedure, you may ask to receive your data in a structured, standard and machine-readable format and transmit it to another data processor.
Right of Revocation: Insofar as the data processing is undertaken based upon consent, you shall have the right to withdraw your consent with effect for the future at any time free of charge.
Right to Lodge a Complaint: You also have the right to lodge a complaint about our processing of your data with a supervisory authority (such as the Data Protection Commissioner for the Federal State of Lower Saxony [Landesbeauftragte für den Datenschutz Niedersachsen]).
