Could BEVs, PHEVs and such others even overtake conventional combustion-engine vehicles for the first time in 2026? To what extent is this reflected in the full-year figures for the fleet market?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"iv-modul__answer\">\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #002733;\">All in all, registration figures for the European fleets remained extremely stable last year. In terms of the 15 EU markets that are particularly relevant to us, there was a slight decline of just 0.1 per cent overall. The figure was slightly higher for Germany at minus 4.6 per cent but, that said, 2025 was still the fourth strongest fleet year ever in Germany since we began recording data in 2001. As the year drew to a close, December was particularly impressive, putting the initial impression firmly into context. This dynamic could provide momentum for 2026.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;17px&#8221;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]<\/p>\n<div class=\"iv-modul__question\">\n<div class=\"iv-modul__question\">\n<div class=\"iv-modul__question\">\n<div class=\"iv-modul__question\">\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt; color: #002733;\"><strong>Does the good performance extend to all powertrain types \u2013 or are there winners and losers here?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"iv-modul__answer\">\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #002733;\">Actually, the growth in commercial registrations of fully battery electric vehicles has started to accelerate significantly again. To stay with Germany: the fleet market here recorded the strongest demand for BEVs in 2025, with new registrations reaching just under 207,000 (+38%) \u2013 an all-time high. Incidentally, this is in line with the trend we\u2019ve observed in not all, but in many other European countries. All in all, BEVs are clearly making inroads in the markets we looked at, with a percentage share of 26 per cent (+5.5 percentage points). At the same time, we are recording a noticeable decline in demand for traditional petrol and especially diesel vehicles.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1772445866121{border-radius: 35px !important;}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"L\"><span style=\"color: #002733;\"><em><strong>\u201cAll in all, BEVs are clearly making inroads in the markets we looked at, with a percentage share of 26 per cent (+5.5 percentage points).\u201c<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_separator color=&#8221;custom&#8221; align=&#8221;align_left&#8221; el_width=&#8221;20&#8243; css=&#8221;&#8221; accent_color=&#8221;#C2FF02&#8243;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1772446048623{border-radius: 20px !important;}&#8221;]<strong>Michael Gergen<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Senior Customer Services Specialist at Dataforce[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;17px&#8221;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]<\/p>\n<div class=\"iv-modul__question\">\n<div class=\"iv-modul__question\">\n<div class=\"iv-modul__question\">\n<div class=\"iv-modul__question\">\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\"><strong>How do you interpret this shift to BEVs?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0px;\">I find this development remarkable, especially in Germany. On the one hand, because it happened organically so to speak \u2013 in other words without additional government incentives after subsidies expired on 1 September 2023, apart from the continuing tax benefits. And, on the other hand, if you recall the discussions a few years ago regarding range anxiety, charging uncertainty etc., you don\u2019t hear this as much at all anymore in the fleet area. BEVs are gaining ground in fleets, because the charging infrastructure is improving, because the choice of models across all vehicle classes is constantly growing \u2013 I\u2019m thinking here of Volkswagen, for example, and the imminent market launch of the ID. Polo \u2013 and naturally because companies also benefit as a result, for instance as regards carbon footprint, employer attractiveness, image and ongoing costs. Could you give us some insight into the topics that are of particular interest in the context of the BEV boom?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0px;\"><span style=\"color: #002733;\">On the one hand, fleet managers have become more open to us concerning their electrification strategy and are essentially also looking at new brands when it comes to BEVs. However, one aspect remains very important: reliability. An extensive service network, good accessibility and especially personal support when problems arise \u2013 all of these remain decisive criteria for fleet managers along with competitive leasing conditions. Ultimately, it doesn\u2019t matter whether it\u2019s a combustion engine or an electric motor under the bonnet. We can clearly see this in the figures by the way: Volkswagen Passenger Cars was the most popular fleet brand once again in 2025 with a share of 21.5 per cent of new registrations. Which vehicles were particularly popular with fleet users in 2025?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"iv-modul__answer\">\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0px;\">Major shifts can be seen here. Compact SUVs led the way for the very first time over the course of the year. And there was also a shift at the next level up \u2013 from mid-size saloons or estates to mid-size SUVs. What was also interesting was the significant increase of 42 per cent in the upper mid-range segment. Two electric product lines from the Volkswagen Group played a decisive role here: the ID.7 from Volkswagen and the Audi A6 e-tron. Where diesel was once the norm with the classic field service estate, for example, the pendulum is now swinging increasingly towards the high-range electric counterpart.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;17px&#8221;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]<\/p>\n<div class=\"iv-modul__question\">\n<div class=\"iv-modul__question\">\n<div class=\"iv-modul__question\">\n<div class=\"iv-modul__question\">\n<div class=\"iv-modul__question\">\n<div class=\"iv-modul__question\">\n<div class=\"iv-modul__question\">\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\"><strong>This brings us directly to the forecasts for the current year. What can we expect in the European fleet market in 2026? Will the BEV success story continue \u2013 and will combustion-engine models soon disappear completely?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"letter-spacing: 0px;\">You naturally have to draw a distinction here. There are still areas where classic combustion-engine models will retain the upper hand in the medium term. I\u2019m thinking primarily of the area of light commercial vehicles, such as emergency vehicles, which must be available around the clock, or also functional fleets with high mileage. In the German passenger car fleet market, however, we are actually expecting a \u201cleadership change\u201d in terms of registrations. BEVs will most likely surpass diesel or petrol models for the first time here in 2026. This will also be the case, if it is not already, in markets such as Belgium, Austria, the Netherlands and Great Britain. Other countries such as Italy, Spain or Poland are a bit slower to change in this regard. Much depends on local circumstances, not least the situation with subsidies and tax incentives.
