But traditional dongle solutions in vehicles often bring with them considerable administrative overhead or do not provide enough information. And this is precisely where Fleet Interface Data comes in. The new interface delivers the OEM real-time data of Group vehicles from six brands directly to a wide range of different fleet management systems. The EU-wide roll-out has just taken place \u2013 and offers huge possibilities for fleet operators. <\/span><\/h2>\n

Mr Schmidt van H\u00fclst, large markets like France, Spain and Italy embarked on this journey at the beginning of the year; now you are bringing the benefits of Fleet Interface Data to fleet operators across most of Europe. What is your take on the roll-out?<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

I think the term milestone is bandied about a little too often these days but in this case, it absolutely fits the bill. With the introduction of Fleet Interface Data in 26 European markets, we are opening up considerable potential for fleet customers in terms of efficiency, security and sustainability, and we have concluded contracts with more than 20 fleet data providers in the last few months. Fleet Interface Data will enable the data from Group vehicles to be used directly in custom solutions.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

And this brings us to the nub of the matter: to clarify, Fleet Interface Data is not a proprietary software?<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Quite correct. It is not a new application with a user interface, etc. but rather a standardised interface that can be used to integrate raw data from the vehicles \u2013 either from a proprietary fleet management solution or third-party software. We chose this approach very specifically to enable fleet managers to stay with their current system or choose the tool that best suits their individual requirements. The data quality on our part remains the same.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Telematics solutions are not new in and of themselves, so what sets Fleet Interface Data apart from previous approaches?<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In general, the difference is that the information is not collected by additional hardware built into the vehicle. No dongles are required, and therefore neither are workshop appointments for installation, and there is no risk of limited functionality. Instead, the telematics data comes from the manufacturer, so from the Volkswagen Group brands Volkswagen Passenger Cars, Audi, \u0160koda, SEAT and CUPRA as well as Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles. The information is transmitted from the passenger cars and commercial vehicles to our backend, where it can be accessed via Fleet Interface Data. This is fully in line with what many fleet customers want: a less burdensome process without third-party dongles adding unnecessary complications and a fully integrated, secure data solution that functions instantaneously.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Security is a good buzzword when it comes to data. What benefits does Fleet Interface Data offer in terms of data security and data protection?<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The data chain from the vehicle to your system is closed and protected on an end-to-end basis at our end. No external devices are connected to the vehicle, thereby eliminating a major vulnerability when it comes to cyber attacks. All backend data processing is secured in line with the highest automotive standards and of course in compliance with the markets\u2019 data protection regulations. In other words, sovereignty over the data lies always and exclusively with the customer. Fleet managers are therefore responsible for informing their users about data generation and obtaining their consent. We are only involved in the technical side of processing the vehicle information.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Let\u2019s get down to the nitty-gritty \u2013 which day-to-day problems in fleet management does Fleet Interface Data solve?<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

That obviously always depends on the fleet management software that prepares the data. But essentially we are reducing manual effort considerably by digitally recording, for example, the number of kilometres driven or fuel levels. Thanks to detailed maintenance data, service appointments can also be scheduled more efficiently and downtimes reduced. And: Fleet Interface Data provides information on consumption and emissions, which is invaluable for companies complying with increasingly stringent regulations for sustainability reporting. These all represent tangible added value for fleet managers in day-to-day business, and even moreso if we are talking about the electrification of fleets.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Data becomes even more important with the changeover from combustion engines to EVs. Only when you have detailed knowledge of your own fleet and driver profiles can you determine the best possible solutions \u2013 and continue to improve them with the help of telematics information. Mr Schmidt van H\u00fclst, if we take a look in conclusion at the future of Fleet Interface Data: what will it be capable of?<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

We are already increasing its functional scope this year to include GPS data for combustion engines and numerous e-vehicles. This means that fleet management \u2013 with the consent of the users of course \u2013 will be able to see where which vehicle currently is. This will help companies with large service fleets in particular to better plan their deployments and routes. We also plan to use charging data, especially for electrified fleets. So you can see what a wide range of options there are to make lucrative use of all this data. And this is only the beginning.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
