Mr Piekarek, the abbreviation ESG is known to cause a few worry lines for many fleet managers. What makes the reporting obligation in this area so challenging?<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

When we look at the \u2018E\u2019, i.e. the \u2018Environmental\u2019 part in ESG, it starts with the fact that the CO\u2082 emissions to be determined from the vehicle fleet fall into different categories. If company cars are used in a company, whether in the service fleet, in sales or in management, their CO\u2082 emissions are categorised under Scope 1 \u2013 as the company is directly responsible for their operation. By contrast, the likes of employee commuter journeys are to be attributed to Scope 3. Then there\u2019s the fact that, according to the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), the CO\u2082 emissions of fleet vehicles have to be reliably and realistically recorded. However, the WLTP values used until now can still be used on a transitional basis.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

What solutions does the Volkswagen Group offer to help its fleet customers?<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Our country-specific fleet management reporting tools play a key role here. Fleet managers can use these to call up all relevant information \u2013 not only on Group vehicles, but also on vehicles from other manufacturers, as the relevant data is supplied by the respective manufacturers. When it comes to fuel consumption and emissions, in the Group we are currently looking closely at how and in what form the telematics information from the vehicles can be made accessible.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

That\u2019s the obligatory stuff. But what potential does ESG hold for companies?<\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

ESG is increasingly becoming a way for companies to set themselves apart form the competition. This means that the better a company\u2019s ESG rating, often the better their chances will be in call for tenders. After all, potential customers also have to report on the emissions that occur in their value chain \u2013 to which the company contributes. Because of this, it is obvious that fleet emissions should be reduced as much as possible through the use of battery-electric vehicles, which produce no local emissions. Of course, this also applies to us as a supplier: A good ESG rating will also have a positive impact on our competitive opportunities. We are therefore very pleased that our own sustainability strategy has exactly the right objectives.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

So, is everything green in terms of ESG technology with an electric fleet?<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Not quite. To get a green tick in the CO2 advantage box, you have to consistently charge the fleet with green energy. In everyday company car use, for example, this is done with the Charge&Fuel card and app at IONITY charging stations. Here, you will always charge your vehicle with 100% green electricity with no exceptions. And even with a sensible and sustainable charging infrastructure at the company location, big steps can be taken in the right direction. That just leaves charging at home. Here too, fair regulations between company car users and companies can achieve major reductions in emissions.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Lots of companies are making the move away from combustion engines and towards electric vehicles. In your opinion, what are the arguments in favour of collaborating with the Volkswagen Group?<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

In principle, we can cover almost all areas of application in the fleet electrically with our model portfolio \u2013 from management vehicles, to traditional field service with high annual mileages, to pool vehicles that are predominantly driven in city centres. But that\u2019s just the hardware: we also advise companies on adapting their car policy, help to analyse driving profiles and, of course, take care of important issues such as charging infrastructure at the company site or wallboxes for users at home. In combination with the nationwide dealer and service network and in cooperation with our local partners and experts, this holistic approach is probably unique on the market.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In Germany we pool together these services under the claim \u201cFleet.Electrified\u201c<\/a><\/strong>; internationally we refer to \u201cElectrification-as-a-Service\u201c<\/a><\/strong>. By the way, we don\u2019t just focus on the classic company car: At the start I talked about the emissions caused by commuting employees. In Germany, we will soon be launching an exciting pilot project for gross salary conversion. In other words, even employees who are not authorised to use company cars will be able to use it to obtain electric vehicles with zero local emissions at attractive conditions. This in turn would also have a positive impact on the company’s Scope 3 emissions.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
