The system can issue an alert if the vehicle inadvertently strays from its lane. In contrast to the familiar lane keeping system, the emergency lane keeping system can intervene more forcefully as soon as an emergency situation has been detected \u2013 and, for example, actively countersteer if the vehicle threatens to leave the road or stray into the path of oncoming traffic.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Regulation EU 2019\/2144 covers the type approval of motor vehicles [\u2026] with regard to their general safety and the protection of passengers and vulnerable road users. This event-based data recorder is a type of black box on board the vehicle. It stores the data immediately before, during and after a collision. The data recorded and stored is anonymised for data protection reasons and can be made available to national authorities for the purpose of accident investigation.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Head impact zone<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Passenger cars and light commercial vehicles will have to be designed and constructed in the future to provide for an enlarged head impact protection zone. This assist system has been mandatory in new vehicles since 2022 and is designed to prevent the driver from \u201cnodding off\u201d: The system analyses the driver\u2019s behaviour by continuously recording eye and eyelid movements and\/or steering movements. If it detects any sign of drowsiness or any lapse in concentration on the part of the driver, the driver alert system sounds an acoustic warning and issues a message on the display (coffee cup).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Such control systems have been mandatory in new vehicles since 2014. They can issue a warning if the air pressure in tyres deviates too significantly from a defined value or they can permanently measure the tyre pressure.
