If the battery is charged, then the vehicles start in a purely electric mode. The hybrid drive is activated, when the battery\u2019s charge level drops below a certain level or the speed of the vehicle surpasses 140 km\/h. The driver can control the battery\u2019s charging process using the different modes of the hybrid drive: By engaging the braking energy recuperation, the battery is for example also charged on the go; the driving efficiency increases in the e-mode.
